The real Mexico

With some spanish skills in our backpacks, we have now left Playa del Carmen to get a glance of the no-turistified Mexico.

With a hotel room for 45 kr per night, small maya societies, big hearted people dancing in between the many small booths, yucatecan food and smelly markets, we like what we see.

After a one hour bumpy car ride outside Merida, we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of nowhere. Totally alone. And there they were; the astonishing cenotes.

At first it was scary, seeing bats flying over our heads deep down in the black whole. But then we saw the crystal clear water, colored blue/green by the sun.

We jumped in.

Through our snorkel masks, we got to see some weird looking rocks, fish and bones from the mayan offerings at the bottom of the dark caves.

Sure, you see stuff like this in billion dollar films. But when you actually get to see them in real life, it is simply quite astonishing.
